(Work materials available Saturday and Sunday, final entries presented Sunday before court) | |||
| Subtlety Contest | Saturday Afternoon | ||
| A Subtlety is an edible decorative presentation. All parts must be edible and food-safe. This could be anything from a cake shaped like a shield, to a roast bird arranged to look like it is still alive. Consideration will be given to general appearance and effect; period or SCA-appropriate theme; fitting into the theme of the Field of the Cloth of Gold; historical documentation for the base recipes used to construct the Subtlety; and actual flavor. All entries should be made and stored using safe food-handling practices, which will have to be described to the judges before they taste. Entries may be made off-site or on-site. Please consider how your entry will survive the weather. To be judged by members of the Madrone Culinary Guild. |

Each Barony will sponsor a team. The Team may split to work on separate projects, but they must split the team's supplied materials if they do so. They must create an item of garb that will be modeled by someone for the presentation at court. Teams will be judged on: Practical wearability, historical plausibility, workmanship, crowd appeal and, in a separate contest, documentation written onsite. Teams may not bring anything but scissors from offsite. They can purchase up to $10 of supplies per team from merchants onsite. The competition will run from just after morning court to the presentation of the garb at evening court. The evening court attendees will "vote" for their favorite (see "crowd appeal"). |
